On 1 November 2023 in the Faceted Chamber of the Patriarch’s Palace, the concert “Music of Tsars’ Ceremonials” introduced to the audience the tradition of church singing that used to be popular at the Russian court in the second half of the 16th century.

Elena Milovzorova, head of the publishing and special programs department of the Moscow Kremlin Museums, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech.

“On the one hand, the casting of performers for each show is a responsibility and, on the other hand, it is a creative process. In the current case, the chamber choir of the Moscow Conservatory named after P. I. Tchaikovsky represents a rather wide creative palette. Each time the performance of this ensemble becomes quite a peculiar story. The pieces they are going to play today is an absolutely new stylistic program for them,” she said.

The spiritual compositions of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Alexey Lvov, Dmitry Bortnyansky, and Stepan Degtyarev were performed by the chamber choir of the Moscow Conservatory within the walls of the Faceted Chamber of the Patriarch’s Palace. The listeners enjoyed the canticles of the 18th century about Peter the Great as well as the canticles laid on the poems of M. V. Lomonosov and A. P. Sumarokov. Canticles are the many-voiced spiritual or secular songs of panegyric, historical, or didactic character, which were extremely popular at that period of time.

The festival “Ambassadorial Gifts” is organized with the support of “Pepeliaev Group” law firm.
