On 21-23 March 2023, the anniversary research-to-practice conference Museum Libraries in Modern Society was held in the lecture hall of the Moscow Kremlin Museums on the Manezhnaya street. This year, the theme of the conference was ‘Museum Libraries and Professional Associations: Cross-Disciplinary Aspect’.

The event began with a welcoming speech of Deputy Director for Scientific work A.L. Batalov, who underlined an important role of libraries in digital age.

'Book – is a centre, around which our civilization is built. A digital book disappears as soon as electricity is switched off, while a printed book always remains.  No screen can substitute a feeling when you get connected to a book, touch its pages. Libraries, that often keep a book in one copy, are the storages of memory,’ stated Batalov.

Further, Deputy Director for Enlightenment and Museum Popularization O.V. Dmitrieva welcomed the audience.

'You are a unique professional community and a unique communication network, that has a necessity to exchange thoughts and experience annually. Our conference became an institution, and let me wish it remains so in the future, so that scientific and professional communication will always be practised here, she underlined.

The representatives of the Moscow Kremlin Museums, Novgorod Museum and Heritage Site, creative team ‘Museum Solutions’, Siberian University, State Public Historical Library of Russia and others spoke at the conference. Besides, independent experts shared their opinion.

At the end of the first day of the conference, the guided tours round the exhibition ‘The Heavenly Host. Image and Veneration’, the exposition of the Armoury Chamber, as well as the exhibition ‘Korea and the Armoury Chamber. The History of the Coronation Gift to the Last Emperor’ were organized for the guests.  After the results of the second day were summed up, the participants visited Pavel and Sergei Tretyakov Museum and The Museum Lounge in the West Wing of the New Tretyakov. The last day of the conference was dedicated to the visit to the All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature named after M.I. Rudomino.
