On 17 April 2023, the 4th music festival ‘Tsars and Muses: Opera at the Russian Court’ opened in the Armoury Chamber of the Moscow Kremlin Museums.

Elena Milovzorova, Head of the Publishing and Special Programs Department, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. She told about the history of the festival, about the shows performed during this time, among which were the music piece after Simeon of Polotsk, stagings of different Russian operas such as ‘Cephalus and Prokris’, ‘Alexander and Elizaveta’, and other beautiful pieces.

“We have launched the project in 2018 and told our spectators how the Russian opera had been forming from the times of Alexey Mikhailovich’s tsardom. Now we have reached the edge of the 19th-20th century and the current festival will be the last of the series ‘Tsars and Muses’,” she said.

The concert named ‘Tale, Fantasy, Drama in Operas of Russian Composers’ took place on 17 April 2023. In the Armoury Chamber, the solo singers of the Bolshoi Theatre and the Moscow Theatre ‘New Opera’ named after E.V. Kolobov performed parts of the opera ‘Sadko’ by N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, as well as the arias from historical-romantic drama ‘The Tsar’s Bride’ and fairy operas ‘The Snow Maiden’, ‘Tale about Tsar Saltan’, ‘May Night’. The concert was held to a full house.
