01# Altar gospel covered with decorative bindingsThe Moscow Kremlin Museums participate in the exhibition project "An Emerald Room", designed as a representation of the mineral wealth of the Urals and its coloured stones in particular. The exposition is modeled on that of the famous Amber Room in Russia.

The exhibition is being held in the art gallery of the Residence of the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, also known as the merchant Tarasov's mansion. The project has been initiated by the Yekaterinburg Museum for history of stone-cutting and jewellery-making and Regional Development Agency.

The gallery is hosting about 450 masterpieces from various Russian museums, i.e. the State Precious Metals and Gems Repository (Gokhran), the Museum for history of stone-cutting and jewellery-making in Yekaterinburg, the Ural Geological Museum, the State Hermitage museum, the Fersman Mineralogical Museum, as well as some private collections. The exposition incorporates miraculous emeralds, including the first pieces, found in 1830s, alexandrites, beryls, aquamarines, heliodors, pieces of ore and outstanding jewellery items.

Fifteen artworks of the late XIXth and XXth centuries, enchased with emeralds from the Urals, were brought from the collection of the Moscow Kremlin Museums. Some of the items have been produced by the distinguished Russian jewellery firms of Carl Faberge and Ivan Khlebnikov.
