The publication is dedicated to the winter feast in the Orthodox calendar. The first part of the book tells about the traditions of celebrating the Epiphany, about the peculiarities of the solemn ceremony of the water blessing in the era of the tsars and emperors of the Romanov dynasty beginning from the 17th century. The second part of the book describes the rites, entertainments and feasts, related to Maslenitsa, or Pancake Week (Shrovetide).
