The Cross Chamber

Museum exhibition in the Cross Chamber
The Cross Chamber is of particular interest. Its area is 280 square m. It has one vault with no support, which was quite new for Russian architectural practice of the time. It was used as a reception hall the Patriarch received the Tsar and organized gorgeous dinners. In this very chamber Patriarch Nikon gave a house-warming party. Paul of Aleppo was a guest of the party and left an enthusiastic review of it.

Nowadays, in the showcases of the Cross Chamber various artworks of the XVIIth century are on display.

Artworks of copper and pewter by Russian and West-European makers, Russian traditional precious dishware, the showcase shaped as a pedestal which was a usual element of furniture of Russian noblemen’s living quarters are particularly interesting.
In two separate showcases you can see jewelry and clocks of the XVIIth century. Items of ceremonial royal processions and hunting are also worth mentioning.
