Marquee and shrine of Patriarch Germogen

Marquee for preservation of church relics. Moscow. 1624. Maker D.Sverchkov

The marquee was erected in 1624 by the “casting workshops’ overseer” Dmitry Sverchkov for the Holy Tomb (probably, a model) in Jerusalem. It is a unique example of Old-Russian casting. Its sides are a cast filigree grille made of intertwined herbs, sprouts and leaves. In 1625, in the marquee there was placed the Holy Robe brought from Iran. In 1913, during the celebration of the 300th Anniversary of the Romanov House, the marquee was placed over the burial place of Patriarch Germogen.
