Peter, Metropolitan of Kiev and the whole Rus (1308-1326), lived in Vladimir. In 1325  he moved to Moscow and founded the first stone building of the Assumption Cathedral together with Prince Ivan Kalita (Money-bag). In the Assumption cathedral he built an eternity box for himself with his own hands. Peter was buried in the altar of the cathedral that was still under construction.

His burial place and burial vault were erected in the early XIXth century.
