Summer "amusement" carriage. The Moscow Kremlin Stables Workshops, 1690-1692
The XVIIth-century children's summer and winter sledges made by Kremlin craftsmen are of great interest. Their windows are fitted with mica and the walls of the coaches are upholstered in embossed leather. The summer sledge has a swivel pin (axle-pivot) and a so-called "swan's neck" or crane-neck. The summer sledge belonged to Peter the Great's son, Alexey, and the winter sledge, fitted with runners, was executed for the daughter of Tsar Ivan Alekseyevich.
