Hall 8. Ceremonial horse harness of the XVIth to XVIIIth centuries

Hall 8. The Armoury Chamber
The collection is based on objects executed for ceremonial royal passages in workshops of the Kremlin Stables Office. The collection includes  saddles of Tsar Ivan the Terrible, Boris Godunov, Michael Romanov. Luxury of Russian rulers’ passages is demonstrated by separate items of ceremonial horse harness – horse-covers, saddles, bridles and sets of essential elements of horse equipment, displayed on stuffed horses.

Among the exhibits there are a lot of ceremonial horse harness by Polish, English, Czech, German and Persian craftsmen. Diplomatic gifts – two gold sets of ceremonial horse harness, presented to Empress Catherine the Great by Sultans of Turkey – deserve particular attention.
