You are welcome to make a visit to a virtual exhibition "Moscow Kremlin, depicted by the painters of the XIXth century", created on the basis of the unique drawings, water-colour sketches, lithographs and paintings of the museum’s collection. The artworks were executed by the remarkable makers of the XIXth century, i.e. F. Alekseev, I. Weis, P. Gerasimov.

You will see beautiful panoramas of unpreserved architectural monuments of the Moscow Kremlin, the Chudov Monastery, Terem Palace, Ascension Convent, as well as the original form of the Kremlin walls and towers.

The beginning of the XIXth century was a turning point in the Moscow Kremlin’s architectural rearrangement. In 1812 Napoleon ordered to destroy many buildings in the Kremlin, including the Arsenal, the St. Nicholas and Water-Supplying Towers, the Belfry. The Senate has been damaged as well. The reconstruction of the fortress during the next five years was executed by the architects Osip Bovet, F. Sokolov, V. Stasov and others. By 1823 the Ivan Square, Tsar-Bell and the Tsars’ Palace became constituent parts of the Kremlin ensemble. Under the decree of Emperor Nicholas I, in 1838-1851, a new palace complex in "national Russian" style was erected in the Kremlin on the project of K. Ton. It included the Grand Kremlin Palace, building of Apartments and more convenient and gorgeous building of the museum - the Moscow Armoury Chamber.

In the second half of the XIXth century the Kremlin’s architectural view underwent a feebly marked change.

The visitor has an opportunity to enter the Kremlin and look it over by means of 5 main routes, through the Borovitskie, Trinity, Saviour’s Gates, as well as take a walk along the Alexandrovsky Garden and Red Square.
