The Moscow Kremlin Museums are of significant importance and occupy a special position among the museums of Russia. This is a place where people may be introduced to the history of Russian statehood, with the richest heritage of Russian culture in constant interaction with the world’s artistic traditions. Millions of tourists and guests in our capital begin their acquaintance with Russia starting with a visit to the Kremlin and its museums.
The historical-architectural ensemble of the Moscow Kremlin is included in the list of UNESCO’s Monuments of International Cultural and Natural Heritage.

In 2006, the Moscow Kremlin Museums are celebrating their 200th Anniversary. On March 10, 1806, Emperor Alexander I signed an edict “On Rules of Administration and Preservation of the Valuables of the Masters’ and Armoury Chamber”, which marked the beginning of the first national historical museum of Russia — the Moscow Armoury Chamber — now the State Historical-Cultural Museum Preserve “The Moscow Kremlin”. At present, the Museum Preserve includes the Armoury Chamber; the Assumption, Archangel’s, and Annunciation cathedrals; the Church of Laying Our Lady’s Holy Robe; the Patriarch’s Palace; and the Twelve Apostles’ Church, the Ivan the Great Bell-Tower complex, and the collection of artillery arms and bells.

In addition to the regular expositions, visitors may visit the diverse thematic exhibitions, which are of great cultural interest.
