Samurais: treasuries of the Japanise Daimyo

You are welcome to make a virtual visit to the exhibition "Samurais: treasuries of the Japanise Daimyo", which introduces the Japanese warrior-class culture through items from a collection of the Tokyo National Museum. It consists of 73 works of Japanese art, including National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties and spans a period from the Xth to XXth century. The most part of the collection relates to the Edo period (1603-1868). One can see arming, cold steel, utensils for tea ceremonies, costumes and dresses of the Noh theatre, articles of everyday life (clothes, jewellery, household stuff), which testify samurais’ high level of education, accomplishment and technical skills.

Sections of the virtual display correspond to themes of the exhibition, which illustrates multiple aspects of samurais' culture, i.e. arms and armor, and articles of everyday life, costumes for Noh performance and ceremonies. All the precious exhibits, revealing aesthetics of Japanese samurais, are masterpieces of delicate workmanship and worthy of particular attention.

We hope you will enjoy the trip and learn more about Japanese history of art.
