The exposition of the first hall includes artworks which reveal a concept of an ideal image of a Russian Tsar as an anointed sovereign and defender of the Orthodox Church.
The display is divided into several sections, dedicated to themes of coronation, role of Tsar as a warrior and Anointed One, process of interaction between Orthodoxy and temporal power. Through the exhibition and its articles each theme is vividly depicted. We can see precious items having been used as regalia for sacral ceremonies and celebrations, i.e. icon with a panagia and cross, sakkos of metropolitan Macarius, little container with relics called staurotechos. The crown of Kazan, main attribute of the Ivan IV's reign, and articles of Tsars' arming and armour illustrate the main Tsars' duties and responsibilities. The third section presents exhibits significative of divine power of the royal family, venerated by Russian people.
