Faith and Power. Art in the epoch of Ivan the Terrible

You are welcome to make a virtual visit to the exhibition "Faith and Power. Art in the epoch of Ivan the Terrible". It represents precious artworks, executed during the reign of Ivan the Terrible, the first ruler of Russia who assumed the title of Tsar. The exposition consists of the exhibits from the Kremlin cathedrals, Armoury Chamber and museum funds, i.e. icons, embroideries, jewellery. The aim of the display is to reveal the interaction between art, culture and religion, the interdependence of Orthodoxy and temporal power through the artworks of the Russian Middle Ages.
The virtual visit is organized according to a structure of the exhibition, divided into several themes. The first section of the display is dedicated to the ideal image of the Tsar as an anointed sovereign and includes items, which popularized the idea of supernatural power of the royal family. The second section reveals a historical and social mission of the Russian Church and State as preservation of the Christianity.
