The model was originally kept in the Cabinet of Peter the Great in the Academy of Sciences in Saint-Petersburg. Under the decision of Emperor Nicholas I in 1848 it was moved to the Admiralty Model Room. In the Maritime Museum since 1867, when it was opened.
The model presents the 100-cannon first class "HMS ROYAL SOVEREIGN" ship built in 1637, reconstructed after the fire by Harding Fisher in 1701.
