01# Drinking ladle of Tsar Mikhail Fyodorovich To mark the 400th Anniversary of the Mikhail Fyodorovich Romanov's ascension to the throne the State Historical Museum holds an international exhibition, dedicated to the epoch of the first tsars of the Romanov dynasty. When the Time of Troubles - one of the most complicated and tragic periods in the Russian history, which brought the country to ruin in the early XVIIth century by dynastic, political and economic crises, civil uprisings and eastward invasions – has been successfully overcame, the establishment of a new ruling power contributed to the consolidation of the Russian society and laid the foundations for the development of the powerful Russian Empire under the Romanov dynasty. The first Romanovs, who witnessed the end of the Russian medieval period, proclaimed the beginning of a new epoch in the history of Russia, distinguished by the further political and culture reformations. Remarkable relics and artworks of the period are on loan from Russian and foreign museums and archives specially for the exposition.

The collection includes outstanding monuments, referring to the period of the reign of Mikhail Fyodorovich and Alexis Mikhailovich Romanov, i.e. pieces of precious tableware with marks of belonging to Tsars, the shishak helmet of Mikhail Fyodorovich, crafted in the Kremlin Armoury Chamber by the distinguished armourer Nikita Davydov, a noteworthy helmet, known as a "Jericho cap", a ceremonial saadak (bow case and quiver) and harquebus (pishchal) of Tsar Alexis Mikhailovich. Some of the articles belonged to Tsar Peter Alexeevich and Tsarevna Sophia Alekseyevna.

The exhibition, incorporating such magnificent artworks and unique historical documents of the period, reveal the important role of the epoch of the first Romanovs within the history and culture of our country.
