    The "Golden Age" of the English Court: From Henry VIII to Charles I

    The Moscow Kremlin Museums host a specially selected exhibition, dedicated the "Golden Age" of Tudor and Early Stuart court, in its two exhibition halls - the Assumption Belfry and One-Pillar Chamber of the Patriarch's Palace. The project, covering the period from the young Henry VIII’s accession to the throne to the execution of Charles I in 1649, explores the emergence of the royal court as an unparalleled center of power, ceremony, patronage and culture under the Early Tudors and emphasizes the significance of their personal tastes in introducing Italianate Renaissance culture to England. The exposition incorporates the most distinguished items from the British national collections of paintings and drawings, portrait miniature, jewellery, precious tableware, arms and armour, textiles, rare books and prints. The delicate works of Italian Renaissance art and Baroque masterpieces give an insight into various aspects of the English court culture of the epoch.

    The Kremlin in 1812. War and Peace

    The exposition, placed in the Front hall of the Armoury Chamber, is timed to the 200th anniversary of the Russia's victory in the Patriotic War of 1812. The French invasion of Moscow involved the destiny of the country and of the Armoury Chamber as well - a newly established museum with a precious collection of the Kremlin treasuries and relics, which was founded only six years before the war. The museum staff witnessed all the tragic moments related to the Napoleon's campaign for entering Moscow, when the Russian Army retreated, the citizens largely evacuated Moscow and the city was decided to be abandoned and, furthermore, to be burnt. They honourably performed their duties to their service and country and managed to take the museum collection out of the city and keep it safe. The history of the Moscow evacuation, the nobleness of the Russian troops and greatness of the Russian spirit are the research issue to be explored within the exhibition.
